Decide how often it becomes a bed
Occasional visitors and regular overnight use place different demands on a sofa bed. Check the intended use, sleeping surface and stated weight limits. A separate mattress, pullout platform and fold-flat seat can feel different.
Visit if possible, try sitting and ask to see the conversion. Look at joins and support in the sleeping area. Comfort is personal: a photograph cannot tell you exactly how it feels.

Storage is not included in every sofa bed. Keep stored bedding clear of hinges, electrical parts and ventilation.
Measure the room twice
First mark the closed sofa, including arms and back. Then mark the fully open footprint and space needed to operate it. Make sure guests can reach the door and the coffee table has somewhere to go.
Compare sleeping dimensions with your bedding rather than assuming a standard size. Check delivery access using packaged dimensions and ask whether parts are removable.
Make changing over easy
Keep the correct sheets and bedding close by. Remove cushions and bedding before operating the mechanism if required. Do not close a sofa bed around thick bedding unless the instructions say it is safe.
Use the specified handles and keep fingers, pets and children away from moving parts. If the mechanism catches, stop and check for an obstruction instead of forcing it.
