How to care for your fabric sofa
A practical routine for everyday care, fresh spills and knowing when to ask for help.
Good upholstery care starts with instructions for your exact fabric. A method suitable for a woven cover can damage a delicate pile, backing or finish.
Identify the fabric first
Keep the care information supplied with your sofa and check it before applying anything. If unsure, send us the order number, fabric name and a photograph. Ask about the material and stain before testing a cleaning method.
A removable or zipped cover is not automatically machine washable. Washing can shrink it or change its finish. Do not steam or wet clean unless specifically permitted.
Build a gentle routine

When something spills
Act promptly. Lift away loose material and gently blot liquid using a clean, dry, absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing it deeper into the fabric or soaking the area, which can spread marks or affect fillings.
Before using water, detergent or stain remover, follow the exact fabric’s instructions. If a product is approved, test it in an inconspicuous area as directed. Never mix cleaners or apply heat to force drying.
Understand normal changes
Velvet pile can shade or show pressure marks as it moves. Some fillings settle with use. These changes differ from manufacturing faults, but unusual support loss, tearing or mechanism problems should be assessed on the evidence.
Photograph a developing issue and contact us with your order details. A care mistake does not automatically explain an unrelated defect.
Can I use a carpet cleaner on upholstery?
